Wear the skin of your enemies, so that they know to fear you! This is the ranger way, to dress themselves in the outer layers of weaker dragons so that they larger dragons know not to mess with them.
The funeral of Bilar Amaris was not a particularly popular one. A few fellow hunters stopped by to pay the briefest of respects, and a drunk great uncle turned up and got the name wrong. His death would have passed into complete obscurity, except for the clothes he was wearing when he died.
Despite the mauled condition of his corpse, the villagers that found him noticed the surprisingly supple and yet sturdy armour. Barely a scratch covered the dragonhide, and they remarked that if only he’d covered the neck a bit better, then he might not have ended up in the state he did.
The villagers brought the armour back and leatherworkers set to work on repeating it and improving it. Soon the best hunters in Emberwood would be wearing green dragonhide armour, and matched with better common sense, it kept them alive much longer.
