Jagex ships the dedicated server free on Steam — "RuneScape: Dragonwilds — Dedicated Servers" — with a headless SteamCMD route for 64-bit Windows and Linux boxes. Budget 2 GB + 1 GBof RAM per player, forward UDP port 7777(7778 for a second server), and the world persists in .sav files whether or not anyone is online. A spare machine on your network covers a six-player world at zero monthly cost — rented hosting mainly buys you the always-on uptime, DDoS protection and no router configuration.
Console players arrive with 1.0 on 15 September 2026 — whether consoles can join dedicated servers is not yet confirmed; we'll verify at launch.
