The stranger the wood, the more powerful the magic. It’s uncertain why this is, but it’s been true since magic was first discovered. When used as a tool for destructive magic, garou druids learned the power of blightwood.

Ashien, a legendary druid among the garou, was among the first to wield such a weapon. As the story goes, they were wandering the swamps when the goddess Lougrim came to her in a vision and gave her a quest. Ashien was to journey deep into the swamps and do battle with a demon that dwelled within.

They found the demon; it emerged out of the fog with a chilling screech and destroyed their staff with a single swing of its blade-like claw. In panic, Ashien blindly reached for the nearest weapon, the root of a swamp tree that had fallen in the mud. Through it, she channeled their will to survive and it burst free of the branch as a flash of lightning.

The creature burned beneath Ashien’s gaze, vanishing back into the mists as if it never were.

Since then, garou druids would favour blightwood when crafting a staff.
