Necromancy isn’t inherently evil, despite what some of the scriptures might say. Whilst some cruelly force the dead into service, others make bargains and pacts with spirits, offering them a chance to influence the mortal world again, rather than simply watch events unfold.

In Fellhollow a small group of mages encountered a smoking fissure in the earth. From it they heard strange whispering voices in the darkness, promising them power and knowledge. Greedily they listened, making pacts with the whispering in exchange for the ability to bind the dead to their service.

In life they performed their arts in secret, raising corpses none would miss, or binding ghosts no one even knew were haunting them. Yet in death, that’s where their true power lay.

With their souls withered away and consumed by the dread Imaru, the necromancers were no longer limited by the last vestiges of morality, and with the new powers at their command, turned a struggling defence against the undead, into a horror-filled nightmare where each fallen ally would rise as a foe.
