Journal
Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It is such a human concept, born out of our own selfishness. We see power as a path to cruelty; seeing too many people who abuse that power for their own personal gain.
The insect does not think like this. The hive is the power, the control and the source of all that matters to the kalphite. At the heart of the hive sits the queen, the source of all kalphite life in the hive. She creates soldiers, workers, guardians - whatever the hive requires. She does not do so for personal glory, nor wealth, nor control. She does it so that the hive can thrive.
Absolute power, zero corruption.
The queens in Ashenfall were stolen from the Kharidian hives by the dragonkin Avisk, who wanted to study their insect minds in the hope that he could graft himself onto them, becoming the hive.
He wanted absolute power, but it would have led to absolute corruption.
