A garou hunter called Mayev was the first in Ashenfall to wear the skin of a red dragon, though she did so not out of malice, but in respect for a dear friend. To the garou, the hide of a slain foe is a mark of great pride, and the bones of a warrior are worn with great honour.

Dragonfire was little concern to creatures birthed in lava, and garou arrows bounced harmlessly off obsidian flesh. Yet, despite all this, it was the madness in their eyes that terrified Mayev the most: as if something else stared back at her. Something bright, radiating a heat greater than the sun and it took every ounce of willpower not to fall to her knees in worship.

Yet, she was prey now. The hunter became the hunted and the KotHaar fell on Mayev and her dragon before she could ready a defence. She fought bravely, desperately, but it would not save her and she readied herself for a death that never came.

Vakar dived into the fray, grasping her in jaws that could have severed her in two as easy as breathing. He carried her to safety. When she came to, she saw the spears, blades and shards of obisidian pressed deep into her friend and she held him in his last breaths, thanking him for her life.

She buried the heart of her friend, as was garou custom, and crafted armour and bow from his scales and bones. Her friend would be with her, always, as companion in her hunt.
