Journal

Dionysius was once a legendary adventurer. In his youth, he single-handedly defeated the troll invasion of Keldagrim. He crushed the enemies of one of the mountain tribes and taught the people of Karamja how to use powerful herbs that might aid them in battle. He committed great deeds throughout his life, and the world is a better place with him in it. Or it was.

After he settled down, finishing his book on destructive magic, Dionysius began to feel that the world was a little unfair. He had tirelessly given his youth for the betterment of the world, and he had nothing to show for it. Even his devout faith in Saradomin wasn't making his life more comfortable.

So, like so many do, he turned to crime. He targeted the nearby bank, his magic making quick work of their security, and he lifted himself a great deal of gold as well as a snazzy blue party hat. Content to consider this repayment for saving the world so often, he now sits back and enjoys his well-earned wealth.

The Temple Knights consider him an ultraviolet archangel threat and watch him very closely... from very far away.

In their own words

Wise Old Man. Ah, you're here, good. Looks like you had an easier time getting here than we did. Troublesome people here, had to give a few of them quite a wallop. I had hoped to be hunting down the next dragon, try and whittle down Kuldra's forces. But, wouldn't you know it, there's a whole ruddy keep in the way. Full of angry Zamorakians. Quite the bother. Good thing you're here though, you can get us moving again. The way is blocked by something called the Gatekeeper. Not sure what it is, or who it is, but it's in the way. There's a nasty magical barrier before we can even reach them, but Doric's working on it as we speak. You can find him up in the Nexus of this place. Though you might want to set up a basecamp here first.

Wise Old Man. That's the question, isn't it? They should all be dead really, especially after Fellhollow, but here they are. Though I wouldn't exactly call this living. It seems they've become twisted, corrupted somehow, into something not entirely human. There's no reasoning with them. They're each completely off their rocker and very violent about it too. I had to blast three of them earlier, when I was eating a sandwich. Terribly rude of them, really.

Wise Old Man. Back on the mainland they'd be called the Kinshra, or black knights, but this is a different order. The Kinshra were formed sometime in the early fifth age, but it looks like these weirdos might be a bit older than that. They're Zamorak worshippers. Followers of the god of chaos. Utter nonsense really. Just a bunch of selfish idiots who want an excuse to be bullies and dabble in sinister magic, that sort of thing.

Wise Old Man. Ah, the god of chaos, or rebellion if you're a more generous sort. He was once one of the Mahjarrat, a cruel race of shapeshifting sorcerers from the world of Freneskae. He came into power when he attempted to kill Zaros, in the second age, and stole as much of his power as he could. Zaros survived, sort of, but that's beside the point. Ever since then Zamorak set himself up as public enemy number one to any sapient being with half a braincell. He was one of the most active combatants in the God Wars and has continued to be the source of most problems ever since. Recently he returned to Gielinor, while Guthix's edicts were down, and made a right mess of things. Adventurers had to kick him back to Infernus and recreate the Edicts so that he couldn't come back. Good riddance I say.

Wise Old Man. What little research I have managed so far indicates that this place was known as Dowdun Reach.A group of human settlers moved here from Fellhollow some time before... well... before it all turned spooky and weird. They called themselves the Children of Shadows, because everyone wants to be edgy. I think they wanted this to be some bastion of chaos. A sanctuary for Zamorak worshipers, where they could be as evil as they wanted - or pretended - to be, without upsetting the locals.

Wise Old Man. Go speak to Doric, who's working on a solution. You can find him up in the Nexus of this place. Though you might want to set up a basecamp here first.

Wise Old Man. Well, glad to hear that the titan is dealt with. Nasty piece of work. Doric says he can get the door unstuck any day now, letting us into the desert. Locals called it the Umbral Sands... sounds creepy.

Wise Old Man. Well, glad to hear that the titan is dealt with. Nasty piece of work. But now we can take a look at that desert. So what are you waiting around here for? Go on! Get!

Wise Old Man. Not finished yet? The longer you leave things, the more likely you are to become a dragon's dinner. We should build our new base of operations here. By we, I mean you — bad back. Doesn't need to be fancy — though some style is always nice — but it needs to be functional. Make a shelter, some foundations, walls and a roof, and then build and claim a bed in it. You can go bigger, of course — let your inner architect run wild — but a bed's the bare minimum we need to get started. Go on, hop to it. Get!

Wise Old Man. Anything I can help you with?
