Journal
Is there a sorrier tale than that of the Ashenfall gyrhawk? It was such a beautiful bird, and it was the closest that the natural world has ever come to a daredevil. It lived to swoop through winding canyons, to plunge into forest canopies. It didn't matter if it was chasing prey: it would negotiate sharp turns and small gaps for the simple sport of it. Man-made structures were just as attractive to a the Ashenfall gyrhawk as natural structures, thanks to the sudden turns and sharp drops.
But then came the invention of the glass window. The Ashenfall gyrhawks never adapted to them. For years, gyrhawks would slam into or smash through windows until, suddenly, those occurrences stopped. The last of the gyrhawks died, and their feathers were lost to the winds.
