I once met a magician and runecrafter who managed to heighten her senses through super focused runecrafting potions. Her party trick was to apply a blindfold and be handed several runes. She could tell you the exact runes by licking, sniffing and fondling the stones. I'm not entirely sure whether this was an ability gained from the potion, or if she was just oddly aware of the properties of runes.

A bit of a downside was that, if you made her a meal, drink or even passed close to her, she would say "ooh, that tastes a bit of air runes" or "you smell like a law rune". It's hard to know what to do with that information.
