A fish can't swallow an entire kalphite. They might want to, as elastic as their mouths are, but a fish cannot cross the line from admiring a kalphite to digesting it.
That's where you come in. With a slice here and there, suddenly a fish gets to try am morsel of antennae or mandible. And let me tell you: if the size roles were reversed, the kalphite would be wiped out in a week.
