For centuries alchemists have yearned to create gold. To transmute base metals into something pure and shiny. While gold is the goal, there are other, stranger metals, along the way, and what could be more bizarre than a bar of purest blue.

Blurite is defined by its colour. It’s in the very name. Yet it offers no real magical, or alchemical value beyond other metals. Artistic, perhaps, it was favoured by poets, bards and artisans of more eccentric tastes, but it still offered little in the way of superior weaponry.

That was until Gothren Actillian took a crack at it. He was an blacksmith, obsessed with the less desired metals and materials. He would hunt for hours in the darkest caverns for slivers of blue, ignoring glittering silver and gold. To him the metal was special, radiant and beautiful. The hues generated a joy in him that he could not describe, and he longed to craft it into something befitting its splendour. He was delighted when he found the ore glittering away in a hidden dragonkin vault in Ghornfell's central region.

He was never any good with a sword, and his magical prowess wouldn’t frighten a kebbit. Yet crossbows, those he could wield. He was a skilled marksman, and could knock an apple from a chinchompa’s head before it exploded.

The crossbow, blue as the ocean, caused much mockery from his companions, yet their mockery soon died as he speared a bolt through the heart of a dragon. Something all of their weapons had failed to do.

He was just disappointed that the dragon’s scales were green and went searching for that ever elusive blue.
